When loooking from the front of the pump, shaft facing you, is the inlet on the left or right?
A: Facing the shaft with the driven gear on top and the idler (belly) gear on bottom, a CW pump's inlet would be on the left side. The incoming oil would travel around the outside of the gears, compressing between the meshing teeth on the right side providing flow and pressure. Typically on a rotation specific pump, the inlet is the larger port, and the outlet is the smaller.
