HYDRAULIC HAND PUMP HEAD Brand new, WOLVERINE by PRINCE model WHP-21-SA single acting hydraulic hand pump. Large release valve knob gives added control for metering loads down. Pump head only. Reservoir sold separately.
Pressure 3500 PSI
Flow 2.1 cu.-in./cycle(up and down)
Outlet Port 3/8" NPT adapter installed in #4 BSPP port
We bought item 9-8436-21 single action. I thought single only produced pressure on the down stroke? What we received is pressure on up and down strokes.
A: Single Acting in this case refers to the output flow valving. If used with a cylinder it would powered one direction with holding valve engaged, manual retraction/gravity down after the holding valve is released. The pump action is described in the specifications and in asked questions as 2.1 in³ per handle cycle (one pump up and down). What you describe is the correct action for this pump head.

Looking for a rapid pump or two speed pump that will pump fast until a load is put on it, it will be used on two single acting cylinders will this do the job?
A: The closest thing we have to the two-stage type action you describe are items 9-014 or 9-5201. They are not true two-stage action, but do have three fulcrum points in the handle adjustment which will change the displacement of the available stroke and achievable pressure.

Does this supply fluid in both the directions of stroke?
A: Yes. The output rating is per cycle, defined as one stroke up/one stroke down.

Does this unit have a pressure relief valve built into the hand pump? If not is there a way to add one?
A: There is not a pressure relief in the pump. You would have to install one inline between the pump and cylinder and then have the relief port plumbed back into the reservoir.
