40 RPM 12 VDC RIGHT-ANGLE GEARMOTOR Brand new, BUYERS PRODUCTS P/N 5541095. High torque, right-angle gearmotor built to fit common truck and trailer tarp systems. Forged drive gear, aluminum gearbox housing and motor end-cap, steel motor housing. Gearbox is sealed to prevent contamination. Includes a chromed plastic bolt-on cover and mounting hardware. Shaft has two 5/16" cross-holes spaced 3/4" apart. Five mounting holes in face of gearbox tapped 5/16"-18.
What is the diameter of the output shaft? And, define "intermittent" when referring to "duty." My application requires the motto to be operating for 15 minutes or more at a time. It is under load at intermittent periods during operation. Do you have a 110 volt a.c. to 12 volt d.c. converter?
A: Shaft: 3/4" diameter x 3-1/8" long w/ two cross-holes. Intermittent duty in respect to this motor is approximately one minute at full load. The motor is not meant for any run times longer than that. The motor is not thermally protected and was built for bursts of power with long cool down times. Continuous operation at no load with intermittent loading will likely burn it up quickly.

How does the wiring work for this unit?
A: There are two wires, black and red. Positive to red and negative to black will give one direction. Changing the polarity will reverse rotation.

Will I be able to control the speed of this motor with a potentiometer? If not, will I be able to control the speedo of it with any type of controller?
A: The current draw is too heavy to use a rheostat for control. Other types of control may be possible, however we don't offer any products that would work for controlling this motor.

Is the output shaft removable from the motor for a minor shaft modification and then reinstall back into motor?
A: The backside of the gear case is held on by 6 capscrews, so it should not be difficult to do.

Is the output shaft removable from the housing for a small modification of the shaft and then reassemble?
A: While it may be possible, doing so would immediately void the warranty.

A: This motor does use brushes on the inside of the body. Sorry we don't have any speed controls for 12 Volt DC motors.
