when used for a small dump bed and bed is lowered fully will clutch slip to lock actuator down without damage to unit. same question for full extension of actuator.
A: No. The overload racheting clutch is a safety mechanism only and use should be stopped as soon as it is heard. Running the actuator past the clutch will wear out the mechanism in fairly short order and result in a loss of usable power.

Will this unit hold its position with the max dynamic load? I.e. will it "back drive"?
A: These are ball screws that rely on an internal brake for load holding. It should not back drive at the rated dynamic load, unless external conditions (vibration, load spikes due to travel) act upon it.
