I am converting an old small tractor to hydraulic drive. I have a 983-1537 motor connected to a 3 speed transmission and a gas engine capable of 25hp @ 3600rpm. What would be a good choice for a gear pump to match this system? I was considering a 9-7794-B. It would be for travel only and the tractor weighs about 1000 lbs.
A: Our best recommendation is to purchase item 9-1022, and run through the calculations on the Vehicle Drive Calculations page. Once those questions have been answered and it's deemed that motor is indeed suitable for the speed and torque appropriate for the application, a pump that can provide a suitable flow for the desired rpm with the necessary pressure to provide the required torque can be easily matched to the engine. The 9-7794-B will quickly provide too much flow for the motor at very low pressure before the engine dies.
