Can i use this valve for power beyond.?

A: No, this valve is not power beyond capable.

I'm looking for a valve to control the grapples on a root rake. Will this valve allow me to hold the grapple in any position i.e. Fully open, fully closed, or anywhere in between without holding the valve handle ? The machine is a 1979 case 580c loader backhoe, gear pump.

A: This valve should not be used on a cylinder, as it has a friction detent on the handle action; and if left in a position other than neutral will continually be forcing fluid to the cylinder until it deadheads and begins blowing oil across the relief valve. Any spring-to-center double acting cylinder spool with load checks will provide the action you desire.

could i reverse the handle and turn this valve upside down to make the plumbing more compact?

A: Yes, the handle bracket can be removed and rotated 180° to allow that.

I need a hydraulic valve to control a bi directional motor with speed control. Will this work.

A: Yes, that is the designed function within the operating conditions specified.

I am using this control valve on a hydraulic system to power a winch. I have 2 questions. 1. Since this has a built-in relief valve, do I still need another relief valve? 2. If I do need another relief valve, should I put a cushion valve between the control valve and motor, or should I use a relief valve in the line leading to the control valve?

A: If this is the only valve in the system, and the onboard relief is set to the appropriate pressure to protect the acutators from excessive pressure, you should not need another relief. That being said; if you have a long run of conductor to the actuator and you expect sudden shock loads to occur, it may prove beneficial to install a double relief as close to the actuator as possible to minimize the distance a pressure wave would need to travel to open a relief and protect the system.

What valve would be best for hydraulic forge press 16 gpm pump 5" x8" stroke 2" rod

A: A spring-to-center cylinder type spool would be safest in a press application. We have a number of options compatible with your flow rate. We would not suggest using this valve with a friction detent. It could lead to a dangerous or deadly situation.

I want to use this valve on a hydraulic press with a double acting cylinder. I need to move the cylinder in both directions and I need very fine control to move the ram up to the part very slowly. I will be using a pump that is 1.3 to 2.5 gallons per minute. Will this 9-5174 valve work good in this application?

A: We would not recommend this valve for use on a press, as it has a friction detent that will lead to unwanted movement if the handle is left engaged, not in the neutral position.

Does this Brand Hydraulic directional control valve have a stainless steel spool in it or do you have one available with a stainless steel spool? Thanks

A: The spool in this valve is a chromed steel. The manufacturer does not list a stainless steel option in their catalog. We do not currently have a control valve that states that they have a stainless steel spool.

Hello, I have a 21 G.P.M Prince P.T.O. pump and a 9-7875 control valve. I would like to plumb this 9-5174 to the power beyond port to run a reciprocating hydraulic tamper that requires 5 G.P.M. of flow. Will the 9-5174 handle the 21 gallons of input flow and reduce it to 5 G.P.M? Also does the 9-5174 detent in position for hands free operation? Thanks for your help....

A: This will work. Since the 9-5174 has flow control up to 18 GPM you will not move the lever very far to limit it to just 5 GPM. The lever does have a friction detent so it stays in any position without holding the lever.
