PILLOW BLOCK BEARING Brand new 200 series pillow block bearings. Cast iron construction with self-aligning ball bearing insert and grease zerk. All bearings except eccentric lock collar types include set screw on the inner race to lock shaft. Items with eccentric locking collar have set screw in the collar.
A: The mating faces of the bearing and the collar are machined with an off-true eccentric. When these are mated together, they can be rotated to allow the rod to be inserted through the bearing. When the rod turns and the bearing and collar turn with it, the eccentric machining makes the collar try to move off true and subsequently binds on the face of the bearing and the rod. This allows for a more positive lock on the rod. This action is dependent on the rod only moving in one direction of rotation. If the rod is regularly reversed, the constant unlocking and re-binding of the collar can lead to it walking away from the face of bearing and losing it's ability to bind.
