4 BOLT FLANGE BEARING Brand new, DURA-ROLL 200 series flange bearings. Cast iron construction with self-aligning ball bearing insert and grease zerk. All bearings except eccentric lock collar types include set screw on the inner race to lock shaft. Items with eccentric locking collar have set screw in the collar.

What is the difference between a locking collar and no locking collar? Does the locking collar have set screw to hold the 1" shaft in place from sliding out? How does the locking collar hole the shaft from sliding out? Thanks, Mike
A: The locking collar has a machined off-true eccentric recess machined in one side which mates to the off-true machined eccentric face of the bearing. A set screw in the collar locks it to the shaft. When the shaft and collar turn, the eccentric mating slips until there is positive grab on the circumference of the shaft and along the eccentric, effectively locking them together. This state is kept until the shaft is reversed, and slippage undoes the locking. Locking collar bearings are typically used for single direction applications where the shaft does not reverse for this reason. Standard bearings usually have just two set screws at 90 degrees to lock the bearing to the shaft.
