I am looking for an open-center directional control valve that will allow me to control the direction of an hydraulic motor on a cement mixer. However, I am looking for the type of valve with a handle that does not need to be held in position. When I move the handle in either direction to the control the rotation of the mixing drum, I want it to stay there until I move it back to center. Which valve(s) should I be looking at. Thanks.
A: This valve is a three position detented motor spool, meaning Neutral, Hold in one direction, Hold in the other direction. This valve will do what you describe wanting.

does this valve have power beyond capabilities. If not, could it be converted to power beyond somehow? thks
A: This valve is not power beyond capable, and cannot be converted to be so.

Will this valve Meter the flow of fluid to a hydraulic motor if slowly engaged? I have a small log splitter setup that I have switched the cylinder out for a motor. I would like to ease the motor into motion rather than full fwd or full reverse.
A: You should be able to feather the valve open and closed gently enough to make that happen. Actuate the spool slowly and get a feel for how it's going to react at your flow rate.

I want to use this valve in a system that has no relief valve, it is just a pump and a reversible hydraulic motor. Will the relief valve that is built into this valve allow me to switch from forward to reverse without creating a hydraulic lock in the reversing valve itself as I am changing directions? Sorry, I am just learning about hydraulics.
A: The main purpose of the relief is to protect your system from excessive pressure (if your motor happened to get stuck). Since this is an open center valve and the works ports are open to tank in neutral you could switch from forward to reverse without having the pump be loaded because of the ports being blocked.
